Not really, but it's scope sure isn't as straight as for example particle physics with CERN or something. Groups working on what could be considered as nuclear physics are scattered around various departments studying nuclear resonance, mossbauer, gamma spectroscopy etc.

Anything noteworthy is likely classified for national security reasons, and we'll never know. I bet the public would be incredulous if they learned the number of breakthrough tech across all fields is classified instead of letting the public benefit from it.

Yes the DoE is very busy at Oak Ridge and Los Alamos specifically in terms of hydrogen fusion weapons. It’s wild I can post vague COMSEC stuff like that here because the next few posts will be about anime or quantum suicide kek. But yes, some very neat breakthroughs with directing EM pulses with small yield reactions that result in some impressive first strike capabilities.
