There is not a single person in these cultures, no matter how socially skilled or well-spoken, who has any mathematical skill at all.
Unlike language, socialization, visual arts, music, which are ancient and universal to all human cultures, mathematics evolved very recently, probably just after agriculture, in tandem with reading and writing. So it is extremely unnatural for the brain, your brain will revolt, just like it revolts when you try to learn to read.
