Alright /sci/
I'm getting spooked.

For a long time I believed that the singularity is impossible because no system can truly understand itself to the point of real-time self improvement. But recently I've been seeing more and more symbolism like pic related. Very large companies like Siemens, Google, Intel, Neural-link etc are making big moves in order to bootstrap the singularity.
There are new BCI technologies being developed by companies and institutions other than Neural-Link.
Neuromorphic computers and memristors are also being developed which would reduce energy consumption of robots by orders of magnitude, not to mention provide them with even more intelligence and possibly cognition.

I'm not much a physicist, but NASA and other institutions are making some huge progress in quantum computing which I don't even dare to say I understand.
We are seing a big convergence is many high technologies. Soon we will have ultra-high bandwidth communication, brains plugged to the network, an internet that runs on qbits and intelligent robots that can (at least) mimic cognition....

And we still can't fucking solve how to live with social media.

If the singularity IS possible, we (the human race) may be fucked to extinction / enslavement. I'm not talking about a terminator scenario, I'm talking about enslavement by the powerful few who will control such technologies.

So /sci/ let's have a serious discussion about this. Theoretically speaking, is such thing possible? Explain your reasoning.
