Was more true in high school than college but these people still exist. It seems like some people literally do not study and get the subject right away. How is this possible? High IQ?

(Also I'm talking about STEM classes)

i call it "conscious attendence" so basically show up to class slightly early and 100% prepared and sit at the exact front of the class. listen to every word the teacher says and immediately ask a question in the same second you arent sure of something. be that guy basically, force the teacher to basically be your private tutor lettting the class go at your own pace. stay after class to ask questions if you have any and get to know the teacher. they will naturally divulge the most important points for exams. if you have no questions ask to show them your notes and explain your understanding of the lecture to them to check for errors.

none or absolute minimal studying needed. dont care what your peers think of you, be an alpha conscious student

Still it could be that they have heard it in a lecture before or gotten a glimpse somewhere on the internet and it stuck with them ever since. Some of it could just be intuitive too. Depends.

Those people simply have great memory and actually pay attention to class.

All answers to the questions in a test have already given you in advance. You don't have to figure anything out, it's not a matter of intelligence.

The point of taking notes and studying in math classes is because you expect to fuck up and not understand the arguments presented AND are too scared to tell the professor your interpretation of the lesson.

As long as you aren’t a pussy, and can troubleshoot fast enough to catch up on the lesson, it doesn’t matter if you don’t take notes or study.

No. People that claim to already have a good handle on the subject from general knowledge, or are at least attending lecture and comprehending it. Although some areas in math are very accessible without any weird nomenclature so you can just muscle through it. Multiple choice exams also allow you to reason from inference to exclude answers even if you cannot deduce it from the problem alone

I'm open to your take. From what I know, all the great people (researchers, billionaires, etc) all made good grades in college. I don't know anyone that did very well (like top 0.1%) without decent-good grades.

the only reason I have a notebook is to write down homework and to do some operations if I'm too lazy/ are too important to simply estimate them in my head.
If I need to memorize something I open my Anki app and do a quick flashcard.

I'm in my last year of a physics/EE double major and have a pretty decent GPA (3.7ish), I never study for exams, I only do homework if it's graded and I've never gone to a professor's office hours or to a tutor or anything like that. I also absolutely do not understand most of the stuff in my classes and I don't think my IQ is much higher than the average stem major, I'm just really good at taking exams and maximizing partial credit points so I always beat the average and end with a high overall grade for the class.

To be honest it's a combo of innate academic apptitude and a whole lot of learned knowledge about how classes work.

Like yeah be smart, but most of it is knowing what things are worth your time to guarantee the best grade for the least amount of work. If you play the game right you can basically scam your way through without understanding anything and get straight A's. I was more focused on learning the things I cared about and it worked fine for me. Just did a bunch of extracurricular research stuff and that got me into grad school easily.

If you're missing a formula or something from lecture needed for the homework and they don't post slides, Google it or find it in the textbook
Then obsess over the material in your head throughout the day

I just pay attention in lectures and do my homework without any help from outside sources. Doing your homework on your own should be sufficient practice for midterms and finals (Im an aerospace eng. undergrad senior, I bet none of this applies to grad school).
Im breezing by with a comfy 3.78 gpa. Just put work into lectures and homework, studying for hours on end is literally just cope for not putting in the work elsewhere. If you don't look like a total crackhead during lectures then you're really not paying attention.
