if moths fly towards light, why don't they fly to the moon

The moon isn't a light source. It reflects light. The light it reflects isn't that intense either compared to lights that are more nearby.

Moths do not fly to a light -- they navigate by holding a light at a constant bearing. With most natural light sources, such as the sun or moon, this means moth-bro flies along in a straight line. This is because the sun and moon are very far away, lines of sight back to them are not quite exactly parallel, but are close enough for moth purposes.

Local light sources, though, if you hold a constant bearing less than ninety degrees, you spiral inward to a collision. If you hold a bearing of ninety degrees, you circle, a bearing of more than ninety degrees, and you spiral away. But those last two lead to moths that you don't see as they do not come to the light you are dealing with.

This seems completely logical, but from the sites I checked there seems to be no conclusive reason for moths being attracted to light
