I mean my cats and my dog can tell that what's on TV isn't 'real' since they don't start barking at anyone that appears on it / try to hump dogs that appear on it so I assume that a Caveman, who would be much smarter, could probably figure it out pretty damn quick.

A more interesting question is whether they'd be able to follow at all without any knowledge of film language. We can infer we've moved in space and time when the film cuts to a different place at a different time of day but will a caveman understand what happened or think the film is an incomprehensible abstract mess?
