I noticed his theory has a lot of similarities to Wolfram's extravagant theory of everything (though he published his many years before Wolfram's). Wolfram is more annoying to me, because although he does actually have a serious physics and math background, he's way too arrogant and over-confident about the correctness of this extremely speculative idea. I did find his podcast episode interesting, though; it is definitely a coherent theory, whether or not it has any relationship to reality:
