The design principles of tech and connectivity today is to distract you and capture your attention as this translates to sales and profits through ad clicks ad sales or just datamining users to sell the resulting data and other consumerist driven behaviors. This approach to tech completely ignores that this actually hurts the user by breaking concentration and making the user waste time and money on useless thing.
Pic related but for digital tech would be the most useful wearable tech of current era.
I used to be a big fan of tech, but having grown up with a less commercialized internet and seen how it have transformed into something whose main goal today is to stream laundry detergent commercials straight into your occipital lobe 24/7, like public TV channels of old, but on steroids, I've come to terms with that it's just a tool.
And what used to be a nice icepick is now a lobotomy knife.
