Arecibo successor?
Since the chinese now have the largest stationary radiotelescope in the world, do you think there will be some impetus to build some facility in the western hemisphere ? obviously, location is paramount for scanning the galactic plane.
Would a natural geological formation like a caldera be more appropriate for this kind of facility or a deep open pit abandonned mine ?
I would say that an open pit mine has already some heavy road infrastructure around and is buried so maybe there would be some protection from RF interference coming from the sidelobes of the horn antenna.
