even if you just consider "the west", the most densely populated cities are london, paris, los angeles, new york, chicago. they all have densities much higher now than in 1968. uk, france and usa all have very high numbers of covid cases.
other high density cities are sao paulo, mumbai, delhi, chennai, i.e. brazil, india. also the highest covid cases.
the highest density city in the world is dhaka, bangladesh. they seem to break the rule (only ~500k reported cases in bangladesh) but they also have one of the lowest rates of testing in the world.
