>>12483220>Why does vaccine skepticism trigger such extreme rage though? It's like getting vaxxed up is the sacrament of baptism for progressivesBecause it and other far-right "what the mainstream media doesn't want you to know" beliefs are generally irrational, and also among the category of beliefs where if it turns out wrong it damages all of society and humankind, potentially gravely.
Anthropogenic global warming is another one. If the skepticism is warranted, then there's some gain. If it isn't warranted, then there's an extreme cost. Therefore, if one believes it's unwarranted, intense disgust and rage over the skepticism is justified.
Meanwhile, the other side so far lacks this issue. No belief espoused by progressives which turns out to be a mass delusion imposes anywhere near as extreme a cost to humanity. Their delusions and conspiracy theories are much more harmless and also much less absurd. (e.g. QAnon vs. Trump working for Putin; one motivated delusion is clearly more extravagant and detached from reality than the other)
Fittingly, the far-right can sympathize with this perspective because they're also examples of the inverse: beliefs which the other side is extremely skeptical of and whose skepticism they believe is damaging to humanity. But, dangerously, these are delusional as well, so now you have a bunch of people who are enraged at skeptics for irrational reasons and who are raged at for reasons they fail to grasp. It's only a matter of time before this results in another civil conflict or war.
