Satellites, planes, drones, bombers, etc. They knew exactly when Russian onions satellites would fly over the base, get everything in the hangars, draw some realistic shape on the ground with black paint and put an engine there to fool the Russians. Pretty interesting.
And yeah, that's all. No aliens. UFOs back then were spycraft, nothing more. And weather phenomena of course, cobolds and elves and so on.
