Economics is either massively under- or overrated depending on who you ask , whats /sci/ opinion ? Or is it just dependent on your uni and how much econometrics classes you take

If accounting becomes fully automatized that hurts accounts and sure will scim away a lot of econ people but why do you assume id totally radicate them econ has more applications than accounting

Theory and concepts are cool. Behaviour economicss and econometrics are fun. Other than that, it's a cope and even top economists say they have too much math but too little history to test theories on.

what are the main daily tasks of an economist?

From self study. I compared prices of "essential" foods. Milk/bread/eggs/rice and what not.

I first compare item to item. Then group to group. At first i just compared 1900 to now. Milk $0.05 to $2.50 now or $5.00 which looks like 50-100 times more expensive. But I made a flaw. The $0.05 was for a quart of milk. Recently i delved back to 1800. And found some milk was $0.56 a quart. Which is $2.24 a gallon. So milk went from $2.24 in 1800. To $0.20 in 1900. And now roughly $2.50.

If you look up currency of 1 dollar in 1800 to now. It says due to inflation 1 dollar then is equal to 20.67(I could be off on the cents) back then 2.24 could get you 1 gallon. But bring the money to current times. And you could by roughly 17 gallons.

And many of the food items are roughly the same price except for molasses. Then the gold standard bugs me. Because the reason we no longer use the gold standard isn't because $1 worth of gold is no longer worth $1 gold. But because there wasn't enough gold to cash out everyone, if they so desired. And then an oz. Of gold was worth $19.87 and since the mone is worth 20x19.87. You would be able to get 397.00 worth now. But 1 oz. Is worth $1,800.00 which is 4.5x as much for 1 oz. So milk wise can almost get 20 times as much. But gold wise you can slightly more then 1/5.

So are we 20x as rich as we think. Or 1/5 poorer then we think? And since world governments tied their money to US currency it applies to them as well.

(I think gold is more valuable now because of it's applications in electronics. But it stayed steady until 10years before the first computer) most house holds cannot function unless 1 person works two full times jobs or 2 people each work one full time job. Which still adds up to 80-112hours(with some overtimes) which still amounts to the hours people have been working the entire time. So does it matter what the pay is if it is just going to be the same outcome?
