>>12473569>why did we advance so muchThe real answer is; no one is exactly sure. Language played a huge part, the ability to quantify and deseminate information, passing on knowledge to our young. But in actuality hunter-gatherers living basically like animals actually had better nutrition and less infant mortality than early pastoralists. No one is really sure why humans made the switch. One theory is that agriculture was the only way to get alcohol, and thus communities accepted the initial suffering for and with beer. Its also likely that despite the high death rate pastoralists could have much larger groups and just converted the hunter-gatherers by force.
But I suspect its mostly what
>>12472495Pointed out. Humans are actually kind of shitty at survival compared to the other species of ape and we evolved extremly high intelligence, problem solving, long term planning, and abstract thinking, to survive. This allowed humans to conquer not just their natural environment, but ALL environments, which further increased intelligence (cant survive in cold Eurasian north without high intelligence, incidentally this is why Euros and Asians are higher IQ than africans). Basically intelligence was our only survival tool, and we relied on it so much that we selected and evolved even better intelligence, like an evolutionary feedback loop. There are other species that have the raw intelligence, brain power, manipulative appendages, language, and even tools, like humans. But none of those species are struggling to survive in their environment to a degree that makes intelligence their only option.
Humans are
>the too smart The species. We MUST be intelligent or we fucking die.
