I like it because it fosters anonymity. People are more honest and more real when they're completely anonymous. Take any other popular website where you can talk to people. Facebook is probably the worst example of being anonymous, you can't have real discourse with anyone on Instagram, and I don't understand why Twitter has become this central hub of political discourse lately with a fucking 250 character limit. It makes no sense and just encourages people to argue with 'witty' gotcha phrases to get likes and retweets, which brings me to Reddit. Sure there is at least some level of anonymity on Reddit, I guess, but the whole karma/upvote system is retarded and any opinions that go against the grain are swiftly discarded and buried and hidden at the bottom of the thread.

I like 4chan because it has none of this. You don't have to sign up with an account, a character limit exists yes but rarely gets in the way, and there's no dumbfuck karma system, so everyone's replies are seen. Couple that with the anonymity and you have a really fun place where people are just real as hell.

Of course, you also get an insane level of shitposting and low quality posts because of that, but to me personally it's a bit of an endearing, albeit sometimes frustrating, quality. Anyone that's been here longer than a year knows how to sift through all the shit and find a diamond. I've been here since around 2008 and have no plans on stopping

I think this anon sums it up nicely. It's refreshing to browse this place in a world where social media dominates our lives. Everything else feels fake, but I know here that people are typically true to what they are saying. Yeah there are many people who post baits and take stances that are inflammatory, but even then they probably find some nugget of truth in what they are shitting up the board with.
