What are you guys working on in the lab? I just did an 80 mmol scale cross coupling using a Gilman complex. 71% yield and essentially pure product. Pretty happy.

My PhD is in biological chemistry but I feel so fake. I haven't even needed a hood in years and bacteria make all my samples.

5 schools, all mid-ish tier. No masters, going straight from bachelors in biochem plus lots of chem electives and research experience.

Oh you should be fine, I did the same thing and got 3 offers. GPA was 3.45 and GRE was ok, good writing score though.

Make sure you meet with your potential advisor face to face and get a clear answer as to what his/her expectations are. Lots of retards can't handle basic communication and don't do well. Ask current students for their opinion on the PI during your visits/rotations.

May I ask which schools?

Over supply of organic chemists means competition for jobs. Your reactions dictate your working hours, not unusual for them to come to lab in the middle of the night. Persistent workaholic culture. The organic chemists at my school worked much more than any other department.
