What is the best way to use a textbook?
It's pretty straight forward for Humanity/Bio/Medicine textbooks.
>Scan through the Chapter
>go back and Read the Chapter
>Read it again if your Brainless ass can't understand the concepts.
>Use the summary to do your Flashcards or whatever bullshit you use to memorize shit.
But how do you Use Math/Physics/Chemistry Textbooks?
For example, I'm done doing the Humanities and Bio reading for an Entrance Exam, so today I started with the Chemistry textbook, They have the Summary, PLUS key equations, and like OTHER 100 exercises per chapter.

What should I do with the last 2? should I do all the exercises? Should I do only the ones that have the answer in the back?
Should I memorize the Equations as I do with Parts of the body and that?

come back the next day and see if you can do more exercises or if all is forgotten

do the exercises that seem interesting to you
better to memorize how equations are derived unless the derivation is tedious. you'll remember better

I need to learn the whole book in 31 days. I'm a NEET rn so neither Time and Concepts are a problem.
It has only 24 chapters so I think it's doable.
what's your opinion on doing (for 1 chapter) 50 exercises the first day, then doing another 25 the next day, then doing the last 25 next week?
The number of exercises will slowly increase (50-75-100) so the curve won't be that aggressive.
When I finish the book I'll have 5 days to redo all the exercises and do a "final exam" consisting of half of all the exercises on the book.

not very likely, idk what kind of exercises are in that book but i wouldn't think that's humanly possible

that exercise count probably means a lot of overlap between question types. do one-two of each type if you want to be thorough, but you'll want to kill yourself if you try to do 50+ exercises per day

Read the chapter to get an overview of the concepts, problems, and how to approach them. Attempt to do the problems, while referring to the chapter to find the definitions/formulas/techniques/theorems to use. Check your solutions. If they’re wrong, review the mistakes you made and attempt to understand the correct solution. Do this until you don’t make any mistakes and feel confident in your understanding.

do all the exercises and equations... think of the textbook as the NPC world of your subject. Your learning should mostly come without it, but you should be able to thrive in it. Occasionally you'll get a class that either weighs heavily or lightly on the textbook, but you should have competence in it, just the same. The one thing I would specify is in certain methodology with showing your work, and whether the text book's style is required.

Used this book for undergrad, you won't be able to get through it in 30 days unless youve already gone through your general chemistry sequence. Also like 30% of the book isnt worth learning

Start doing the very first problem at the end. If you can end up doing it, do the next one that looks a lot more tough.

If you cannot do the problem, try to read the chapter and figure out how to do. Don't look at step by step solutions in websites or what, just read the chapter. If it still doesn't make sense, look up a video about the topic or something. Anything but step by step solution.

Keep doing this until you can get through the end. Don't necessarily do every single question after. Just the ones that look challenging.

When you're done doing questions. Start reading the chapter properly from start to finish. Don't write notes, just read.

Then you can either move on to next chapter or re-read for the sake of writing notes.

PS: This is the only method that works for people who have shit attention, shit emotional regulation and shit time management. And by time management, I mean people who tell themselves this is just for 10 mins and end up spending 6 hours.

This method works for people with ADHD, as they need stimulation. I'm assuming you already like learning and whatever topic the textbook teaches. So by starting to do the difficult stuff right away, your mind will be more engaged. This raises attention.

But you also don't want to lose that attention. So writing notes can be distracting as you'll end up trying to write the best notes, or making it look pretty or whatever. In STEM fields, doing the exercises is what's going to help you understand the material. So focus on that first.

The most important thing to do, exercises, should be what is being prioritized. By making the student read the theory as they're attempting to do the questions, they'll end up actually doing some reading.

Also to ADHD people: You suck at keeping tabs with time. So this bullshit of "I'll just read the textbook and write notes, do exercises tomorrow" is retarded advice that you tell yourself and others tell you. You don't have time management, so you have to go through the textbooks like you're playing a video game. The most engaging games for you are not those annoying vidya with a shitload of tutorials, they're the ones that get you in the action right away, even if they're 2deep4u games like Nier Automata or Dwarf Fortress. If you try to play a game like CK2, by trying to read some tutorial guides or videos, you'll likely end up not starting anyway. You just have to play.

The re-reading part will be very quick at the end. And once you master the chapter's problems and material, the other chapters become easier to do as they tend to be build on whatever is being taught in the early chapters.

Many textbooks have too many exercises, which sucks if you're OCD-tier and feel guilty about not doing them. I prefer books with smaller, well-chosen sets of exercises. These books are usually the most highly recommended ones for a particular subject anyway. The Stewarts of the world can shove their glossy, Web-enabled, consumeristic, soulless, drill-instructor bricks up their asses.
