Its not quantum mechanics itself that freaks physicists out. TO be able to use quantum mechanics effectively is do-able and most undergrads have a firm grasp on how it works. The big freaker is why it works the way it does. The implications of the theory that so accurately model systems is where a large amount of uncertainty still lie.

Apparently quantum is so abstract at this stage it can't be proven at all.
Read about the Bognadoff controversy or the Sokal Affair.
Academic capitalism is responsible for the cut throat environment of trying to get grant funding so anyone in the industry has to look the other way or they end up unemployed.

physicists like to act like quantum particles are magical things that can communicate over distances or exist in a cloud of locations because don't ask questions. reality is that the particles are either interacting through time, actually moving through time, or both. physicists should be trying to figure out how it is possible for this to happen without it breaking relativity.
