And pragmatically this is the right choice. Most people do not really have an urge so strong such that the human approval component of what you are doing is irrevelant.
However, for myself, at least, math does have capacity to suck you into it in that much. I basically do textbooks for fun and nobody knows about that. Only times when I share it with others is when i want to discuss some concept. And it can be done online easily. Corona reinforced all of this since other options are less available. And in my experience, if i feel well, nothing else comes close when it comes to doing solitary activities that bring pleasure. I mean, everything else is either too exhausting or too guilt burdened.
I am certain that my experirnce is not universal though. Most people probably would feel depressed not being able to share their passion.
My advice to OP is to try some introductory books known for good writing and see if you care about this stuff. I just realized my autistic rant came from semi related post response. But whatever
