Once the technology is available, your environment will force you to succumb to their expectations and wishes. That means, if you willingly bore a child that is not genetically engineered and "maximized" so as to return the biggest profits back to society, you and the child would be scrutinized and inevitably face hostility.
Not the first time, people push or are made push for ideas that are actually disadvantageous to the great majority of people. We will also see that the push for intelligence is ultimately only the push for traits that make you learn and adapt faster to skills required in factory and "cubicle" jobs, hence making you more profitable.
