>>12458677That's why you should be always be reading from multiple sources. I do read from Apostol, and when it lacks of intuition, all I do is go to Spivak, compare between both, and so-on.
What you said that "You won't get them unless you're comfortable with proofs" it's not true. It's my first time self-studying a proof-based book, and I actually got the notions behind them. And if maybe I don't understand the proof, I always have Stackexchange, YouTube, and even Book of Proof for reference.
Just keep reading, for the sake of future days.
