I can't be the only one with no interest in this right? All of science is being taken over by this nonsense. Scientists whose work I follow and respect are getting into this. Are we supposed to just capitulate and chase this meme too?

you gotta know linear regression, logistic regression, MLPs, CNNs, LSTMs/RNNs, Transformers, Encoders/Decoders, KNN, K means clustering, SVMs, the lifecycle of a ML Task, how to clean and analyze data, etc. And that's just the ABCs. Then you should specialize in computer vision or NLP and learn all the algorithms and theory for that, like viterbi algorithms, CKY parsing, syntax, etc
ML isn't what normies say they do after 1 tutorial

Its not this, We "think" without knowing how we "think" which makes us a machine and/or semi-counscious.

Building a AI is a path to know yourself.

internalizing Least Squares in your life gets you like 65% on the way.

... no shit. you can even make human speech boiled down to autocomplete. Most human decisions are just a MLE (maximum likelihood estimation) on the data and the situation that you're in, same as ML models

Hes not lying, Netflix uses Matrix Factorization to recommend movies which as a decision problem has some homeomorphisms to the real world. (If you dont consider movies real enough)

Recently went through 4 interviews for position at a high-end fortune 500 company (not gonna dox myself) looking for people with a ML background. The technical part of the interview was incredibly easy. I was completely over-prepared. Anyhow I start in January. It's a lot more than 40k salary.

Eventually it'll get over-saturated, but right now companies are desperate to get anyone with ML experience. That's why half those job postings are asking for generic math majors and engineers. Just ride the meme wave to get the money/funding/publishing you need. My degree wasn't even in computer science.
