Why are math teachers so obsessed with being as confusing and irrelevant as possible? Take derivatives for example:

>This bearded fuck from 1827 developed the-

I DON'T CARE

>Here's some useless bullshit about rectangles that will be laughably inaccurate but-

I DON'T CARE

>Now *technically* you can rewrite the function as-

I DON'T CARE

>I'm going to spend 15 minutes deriving the proof of-

I DON'T CARE

THE DERIVATIVE IS THE SLOPE OF THE CURVE AT ANY GIVEN POINT. YOU GET IT BY BRINGING DOWN THE POWER AND SUBTRACTING 1 FROM THE POWER. PLUGGING AN X INTO THIS FUNCTION WILL GIVE YOU THE SLOPE AT THAT POINT. LIM AND DX AND ALL THESE SQUIGGLES DON'T MEAN SHIT, THEY ARE NEVER INCORPORATED MATHEMATICALLY IN ANY WAY. IT'S JUST MINDLESS, POINTLESS BULLSHIT YOU HAVE TO WRITE EVERY TIME TO MAKE IT MORE COMPLICATED THAN IT NEEDS TO BE.

There. That's the whole lecture. The remaining hour and a half is yours, go play video games.

No wonder people find calculus so mystical and incomprehensible. When I took calc I slept through every class. I listened quietly for the ONE SENTENCE that actually contained meaningful facts and just ignored the irrelevant bullshit. So why do teachers feel the need to waste my time to begin with?
