Yes. The point of the lecture was for you to learn a particular technique that you could later use to solve problems. The answer to the question on the test is already known so there's no value in getting the answer. The test is to evaluate your mastery of the technique taught in the lecture. The point of the test isn't for the discovery of the answer. That knowledge already exists. Finding it has zero value.

if the professor designs a faulty exam which allows for alternative solutions and fails to make clear instructions for each problem, then the professor has failed to make an exam which accurately assesses the student.
