It doesn't have one. It was a mutation that spread in ag goats and they don't die from it because they aren't being predated by anything other than human farmers.

Goats have an excellent taste for minerals, they climb cliffs just to reach a certain spot they can lick at.
Trees have deeper roots than grass and accumulate different nutrients.
