I have seen many physicists claim that the cosmological constant is on a "knifes edge." That if it were changed too much, the universe would not be what it is. But someone the other day said that physicists barely understand the cosmological constant and showed me this article. His claim though would go against what Alan Guth said in a video below and Leonard Susskind as well.

I should have been clearer. People like Guth in the video say that the cosmological constant is needed to be at basically a precise value or else the universe would not be capable of existing and that is why Guth believes in the multiverse. Because in the multiverse there is the probability that some universe would have the necessary constant to support a universe

More reasonable to assume that variants of the constants do exist in the universe, but aren't as stable or cohesive as what won out. It's almost 100% guaranteed that the "elementary" particles are made out of something smaller that could be put together in different ways.
