Nautilus shells are not approximated by the golden ratio, it’s a myth. Even the picture, the spiral is centered at one part and not centered at another. Better examples would be seed packing in plants which follow the golden angle, or any 5 sided shape in nature because the pentagon has the golden ratio in it. This obsession with the golden ratio is stupid.

phi is just a root of x^2-x+1. It's algebraic. Pi is transcendental and is not a root of any polynomial. No functional relationship between them. You can come up with some useless crap e^{i*pi*phi} equals some whatever, but who gives a shit?
