Math and science guy here.
I have done well and have scholarships and all that jazz, people often assume I am good at chess and want to play me. I know the rules but I am not very good at all. I do not wish to spend 1000s of hours learning to be super good.
Any tips or books that could help someone who is smart get up to somewhat respectable skill in chess quickly? Is it best to memorize a bunch of openings or learn flexible strategy?
