Normally, I would just enter something like this into a calculator to solve for x, but someone clever figured out how to take out the x and solve for it manually. Could anyone explain why this works? Are there any other clever tricks like this?

a/b = c/d

ad/c = bc/c

In order to remove the denominator from one side, you must simultaneously multiple the other side by the value of that denominator.

Is this how you would explain it in a mathematical way? Would I describe it as the value of the denominator, or would I use another term?

This is not a neat algebraic trick this is just the brain learning to perform it flexibly and not in the concrete blinders that burger schools would inject you with.

Holy shit can you guys actually not do algebra? Is this a typical thing?
The 'proof' for this is pretty simple.
a = a
b*a = b * a
Replace the operator with whatever you want. By doing the same operation on both sides of the equation, you always preserve the underlying equality. So, to show the use in a simple problem.
c = a/b
b * c = b * a/b
b * c = 1 * a
b * c = a
Honestly, idk why I wrote all this out. Stressed and these simple problems make me feel better I suppose.
