well i mean solar is solid and the federal government is hostile towards solar. he put forward a working model for standard cars , semis for transporting goods and charging stations and solar roof tops and its not selling well. the federal government made it almost impossible to justify buying the roof panels and thats despite the fact multiple times people have been caught taking bribes to stop solar from being adopted by crafting laws that punish you for buying solar panels

so i mean fuck at this point given how much time was spent on it i dont think you can blame him.

Musk is focused on getting things done with minimal amount of time. Solar/battery already works. Sure you may need dozen football field size solar panels on mars for 1 MW power, but his rocket can deliver that and be cheaper than 10 kilowatt nuclear power that cost 10x more.

Math doesn't add up. Putting stuff into space is getting cheaper, but not even close to free. The weight of how many panels you'd need to power a permanent facility any larger than a shitty outpost with two people in it makes it cost ineffective to ship the panels. They would have to be constructed from raw materials on site, which isn't happening with current tech.
