The closest example to humans is probably orangutans, where most males are basically female in behavior and development (they are "male" in the sense that they have male sexual organs and dna), they only procreate and develop sexual dimorphism from the females if they become an alpha male however, and that can actually happen at any time for an adult male orangutan.
Also keep in mind that in humans actual gender dysphoria is a miniscule amount, like less than a percent of the population. The overwhelming majority of "transexuals" are just horrifically misguided individuals who cant cope with modern society and are encouraged in their delusions because its profitable.
