Machine learning is a joke and you should be ashamed if you "specialize" in it.
Anyone can learn how to do classification/regression by fitting complicated functions (neural networks, etc.) to data.
It's an old method and there's nothing interesting about it; self driving cars were made 50 years ago but computers weren't as powerful then. The only reason it's taking off now is because CPUs and GPUs are beast.
Machine learning is so fucking easy. Just take a single class and that's it. I know fucking business majors who took machine learning with me - that's how easy it is from a rigor point of view.
Anyone can do it.
It's a nice tool, but if you're trying to be a game changer in STEM then focus on something that actually has tangible meaning to the physical world, like energy, medicine, etc.
AI is just an easy-to-use tool that is applied to everything else. We should all use it, but anytime sometime tells me the specialize in AI I immediately realize they're fucking stupid.
