i saw it when i was a kid and it was kinda new and desu a lot of the stuff just felt wrong.
flaps of skin and muscle pulled back to look like wings, stupid poses no human has ever stood in, and the fucking stench of the place...
there were a couple of really nice setpieces. i remember one that had fetuses in different stages of pregnancy shown pretty well preserved. but there were also a lot of very unnerving looking pieces that didn't really serve any purpose other than to fill out space in the collection and, i guess, please some insane artist's crazy tastes. when you take a step back and realize this person used to be alive and now there flesh is held together in this grotesque pose... idk. it just feels like a waste

went to one of these as a 26 year old and thought it was gross and creepy. There was one that took just the digestive system out, from mouth to anus , but left part of the face on the mouth part so it looked like a freaky human worm. Shit gives me nightmares to this day. Just imagining that that used to be a real person who had a life and a job and a family and is now just a freaky exhibit... something about that just doesn't sit right with me

It is marketed as an exhibition with educational character here in Germany, at least it was 15 years ago when they showed up. Haven’t heard much controversial about it after the Chinese bodies abuse though. Right now they are probably losing lots of money (and hopefully go insolvent) due to covid19 and the lockdown going around here.

It's an exhibition of human biomechanistic functioning. Sex is literally the cornerstone phenomenon that has shaped our bodies the way they are through evolutionary pressures, and what our bodies are shaped, in part, to perform

The cultural landscape that sees no place for such a fundamental part of human existence in an exhibition about the functioning of the human body is the one that's living in a weird fantasy where this is supposedly not relevant.

i went to one of those exhibitions a few years ago. not the gunter von hagen one. at the time there were a few different ones.
there was some controversy at the time because the bodies had mainly originated in china and there was a claim that the bodies were either from executed prisoners or falun gong followers
i went with my girlfriend at the time who was a nurse and was interested in all kinds of macabre stuff
it was pretty interesting. obviously it was marketed pretty sensationally at the time but really i didn't see much difference between it and e.g. the hunterian museum at the royal college of surgeons in london which has all kinds of weird specimens in jars
