Doesn't Newton's law allow for pertpetual motion?

When objects are apart, there's potential energy between them. However, as they accelerate, that potential energy is turned into kinetic energy, but it never really goes anywhere. The amount of energy in the system remains the same, which means they can attract eachother forever.
