I plucked a nose hair and now it's standing upright on my thumbnail. Can science explain this?

I sent a picture to my friends but didn't want to admit it was a nose hair so I had to pluck eyelashes out to find out how similar nose hairs and eyelashes look. Couldn't get any long eyelashes so I'm not certain if I'll get away with the lie.
