Nuclear rockets would revolution space travel, but muy space treaties stop us from using them.

Soviet union remains as the only nuclear plane that took flight because it has no radiation shield at all and killed all crews within 3 years of exposure.

Did the technology managed to do something about that?

Two issues. The first is that the risk of the rocket taking the nuclear materials into space exploding is still too high. The second is the governments of the world don't trust each other enough to permit any of them to have nuclear material in space.

No, we have radiation in the space and anyway, if you want to protect astronauts, a shield can be added to the ship.

Even if that where to happen, the core could be shielded and recovered, and let`s be honest, we have detonated dozends of nukes in the atmosphere, we have fukushima polluting the pacific 24/7, we have chernobil, and now we are going to worry for the brief moment that can go wrong when putting an engine to LEO?
Look at the size of the engines, in pic they are very small, is not like you are putting a nuclear reactor in orbit.

A space station powered by Nukes is absolutely essential and pretty easy to set up. However, I cannot imagine a nuke-powered aircraft without killing the pilots through radiation or becoming too heavy for flight

Nuclear Subs and Ships have no qualms because the sea water is an efficient radiation shield
Nuclear sites on land has a box of 1 meter of lead filled with heavy water as defense.

You can't compare a nuclear site with a nuclear thermal engine. Again look at the videos. But in any case the nuclear engine could be installed separately from the habitat modules, like discovery in the film 2001.

There are currently no treaties in prohibiting nuclear thermal rockets.

No it does not. There have been proposals to use NTRs on a number of manned NASA mission concepts, but Artemis is not one of them.

The test stand is uhhhhh... not exactly in the middle of buttfuck nowhere, so it will probably get cancelled. But if you keep quiet about it, then it might succeed...

On earth you need more shielding because radiation can bounce off the ground and air. Look up sky shine for the funny case of a reactor that didn't have shielding on it's roof irradiating the surrounding forest. In space you just put enough shielding for a radiation shadow and you're good cause there's nothing up there.
