A start-up called Marvel Fusion wants to make nuclear fusion easy. Take some of those recently invented high-energy lasers and create ludicrously strong EM fields, which then thrust a proton into a boron nucleus with its 5 pro-tons and 6 neutrons, creating a short living 6-6 nucleus.
It rapidly decayes into 3 He nuclei with 2p and 2n plus a bucket of free energy! All this without radioactivity and Fukushima-explosions and the dangers of Pu-bombs and CO2. Also known as the HB11 process. Up to 2023 they want to build a prototype machine to prove the practicability. Up to 2028 a 100 MW pilot plant is possible. After 2030 a 1.21 jigowatts facility is in the reach.
