That definition is technically incorrect as is.
Consider for a second $f(x, y)$ and the ODE $\dfrac{\partial}{\partial x} f(x, y) + \dfrac{\partial}{\partial y} f(x, y) = 0$ . Strictly speaking it has differentials in terms of two variables, but it's still an ODE.

Solution: f(x,y) = g(x-y)
It's easy to solve, using the method of characteristics, and so I think you could see it as solving a family of ODEs. But then wouldn't that basically be true of any first order linear PDE?

Yeah, for all practical purposes, you can reduce a first order linear "PDE" into a classical ODE of the form $X(f) = 0$ for some vector field $X$ .

Ya'll having arguments. But the point is, that post seems to have a typo in the equation. Either I can't decide if it is ODE or PDE since it lacks something.
For now, I'll loosely say that it is an ODE.
