Already have a female hamster. When I have time I might drive to another petco and buy a male hamster under a fake name (they will refuse sale if you recently bought a hamster of the opposite sex)

You need a minimum viable population to ensure inbreeding doesn't destroying the species and even then that may require oversight to control who mates with who. The exact number of unsupervised breeding pairs requires depends on the animal iirc but it's something like at least 10 to 50 pairs.
