Does anyone else get stuck when reading through a proof because you want to prove it yourself without looking?

Maybe it's just because I have an ego problem, but I'm guessing more than half of the people here do too. Whenever I come across a problem I wanna solve it first, regardless of wether it's my first time encountering something like this or not, I'm taking multivariable analysis and by this point I've forgotten how to prove the real analysis theorems we use so often (like the mean value theorem) but instead of just going back to see how the proof went, I want the rush of being able to prove it myself. It's really frustrating but it's like an itch that needs to be scratched, am I alone in this?
