There's an insane amount of money to be made in fusion,and petrochemicals will still be needed even as energy decouples from them due to their use in plastic, fertilizer, lubricants, chemicals, etc. This idea that oil comanies will murder fusion is false-they've changed a lot over the last few decades. There's a reason many of thme are alsos investing in solar and wind. They know that diversification makes for a stronger platform, esp given how volatile oil prices are.
