Claude Félix Abel Niépce de Saint-Victor discovered radioactivity in 1857 by recording the effects of uranium salts on photographic plates. This was published. This was confirmed by several scientists including Edmond Becquerel. No one cared. 40 years latet Edmond's son Henry Becquerel "accidentally" discovered radioactivity.
