the biggest kicker for me, though, and regarding the film hovering around ideas about ESP...the film can be played backwards and forwards on top of itself, and it reveals even more ideas. It's not 100% in every scene, but there are MANY aspects that line up perfectly, which is fucking crazy.
When you watch it backwards and forwards projected onto itself, it almost seems like he was trying to get other parts of the film to "haunt" or "communicate" with each other.
Like some scenes of danny receiving premonitions line up with catastrophes that happen later in the film. Like they foretell of coming events, and he becomes aware of it.
It's undeniable when you see the scene where the backwards and forwards parts meet in the middle and overlap on each other.
It's the part where the cook "receives" a message from danny, and the visual motif plays as if he's actually receiving an ESP message
