The Calculus sequence in american universities is incredibly gruesome as well as Organic Chem which is required for almost every science major.
The rigor and memorization if unbelievably difficult.
In 6 weeks american students are expected to learn and memorize 60 basic rules of differentiation and integration, along with every basic identity, and apply them on the first exam of Integration by Parts.
That whole 10 page reference section in the back of Calc books pretty much has to be memorized by the first exam for American students.
European students to my knowledge due not have this level of examination
