it's a buzzword. when a 'data analyst' or 'data scientist' job is posted, it may mean anything really.

most of these are just datamonkeying or data cleaning positions that no one wants so they just label it data analyst to pigeonhole people.
proper data jobs have PhD prereq, anything else is just a coin toss

i work kind of in this field.

My job is probably 30% coding (R, SAS< Python)
30% making excels
and 40% making power points and presentations brining in business and marketing knowledge combined with the data and numbers i've put together.

If you're already doing the data science meme, it's not too late to get out. Just go fullstack or networking.
