steve wozniak apparently put together the first apple pc for pretty much the same reason, to impress his nerd buddies at the computer club. he was running the daily dial-a-joke service at the same time, dude was posting memes to electronic data newtworks in the 1970s and nobody was paying him to do it or rewarding him in any way.
theres people like that and then you run into some faggot with a phd who can talk phd-level gobbledygook all day and night, but has never and will never produce anything of significant value in their entire careers.
