As long as the software appears to work, they'll hire the cheap programmers. It could all be sphagetti code, they'll pay for it cause they don't know better.
I have personally seen desperate companies trying to hire another programmer to fix the shoddy code. The real kicker? they expect the same low rates as the shoddy programmer.
Lesson you should learn: avoid being a contract programmer.
