I've been having some very disturbing conversations with the younger people (mostly interns) at my workplace in the past year and it seems that the quality of our education is even worse then I feared. To be clear, I'm NOT an educated person myself. I'm the janitor, my day job is cleaning up other people's shit and lifting heavy things. I have a low to average level of education, never did Uni or smart stuff like that. Yet, I find that what I,ve always assumed was common knowledge is mostly completely unknown to the younger generation and that there is a rising distrust of science and a prolifiration of anti-vax and conspiracy among these young people. And I always find it is based on a lack of 'common knowledge'. And what I mean by common knowledge is stuff you're supposed to learn in your 1st year of high school like, what is an atom, what is a molecule, how does a cell work, you know, the basics. All these things I've learned in my 1st year and because I learned this I don't believe in anti-vax or conspiracy cause it's all instantly debunked by this basic knowledge. And yet, almost all the young people I've been talking with seem completely oblivious to this. I find this extremely disturbing and depressing.
