the derivative on the right is equivalent to (d/db)(log(q)), so we have that bE/N = ln(q), and thus we have that b = e^(nlog(q)/E).

also the expectation value is wrong in the questions. the expected value is going to be equal to E/n (1 + 2 + ... + N) = (E/N) * (n(n+1)/2) = E(N+1)/2
