My Dad once told me in passing he had seen a military drone or something as a kid, and I asked him more about it; the story was so strange I remembered it and asked him to tell it a few times growing up and it never got more explainable so I'm putting something out here to see if anyone has any ideas.

>Be my Dad as a teenager in November 1980
>walking the dog at 9am in the field behind the house
>Its an overcast day (no snow) and see something like Pic related in the distance (just an edit I threw together)

>Walk up to it from about half a mile away
>Theres this angular thing just hovering completely motionless in the sky
>Its not moving at all, totally frozen mid air in an open field
>Theres no sound, the grass isn't rustling, no air flow at all to keep it in the air
>Its so black its like someone cut a hole in the sky
>Get to within 30 feet of it
>Still no clue what to make of it, debate throwing a rock at it
>Move nearly directly under it and make out a shape to be roughly 10' wide at the base, 5' wide at the top
>Look down, the dog is looking up directly at it
>Strange
>Look at the object and walk around it for about 5 mins
>After a while walk back home
>The neighbour is looking out his window at the object with a look on his face
>Get home
>Like a day later wonder wtf I saw and realize that was really abnormal
>Go back to walk dog again 3 days later, nothing
